The idea of sound proof fencing

So you have just bought your home but when you looked at it, you didn’t understand just how bad the road noise in your backyard truly was. Now you are committed to a 30 year mortgage and have no idea what should you do.  You can go for sound proof fencing. Will this fence completely block your traffic noise? Maybe not, but I can assure you that it will make your backyard much more tolerable.

There are a few things that you should know about building an effective sound control fence that really works. First of all, your new fence should be 8 feet above the noise source. Now you have to check with your township or city to check if they have height ordinances when it comes to fences.

Now let us talk about the fence itself. I suggest creating a redwood or cedar fence as high as possible.  If the noise is coming from any vehicle, then technically the fence should be more than 8 feet. This is not that easy. If the fence is not above 8 feet, won’t it be effective? Obviously it will, but at the 8 feet level, you will be able to maintain the ideal db levels.

Some people also use a blend of both mass loaded vinyl and mat closed cell foam in their soundproof fences along with ceiling clouds in their home. By using this, you will be adding sound absorption to your fence and also ensure the best possible sound blockage. If you utilize these weather proof products, you should leave some gap between the slats on the side of the fence facing the noise source. These fences work incredibly well for loud neighbourhoods. I hope this will give you some hope for having a peaceful backyard.
